1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

The idea of 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is simple: to promote literacy in children from infancy, before they ever step foot inside a classroom. The program encourages caregivers to read to and with their children daily throughout the first few years of their lives, in order to familiarize them with reading; thus achieving a goal of having been exposed to 1,000 books prior to kindergarten.

This nationwide program is one to which we feel strongly connected, and which we fervently support. Irvin L. Young Memorial Library offers a free 1,000 Books program with open registration at the circulation desk. You can also check out the 1,000 Books website here. Happy reading!
