Literacy Grants

3rd Grade – Nonfiction Books

Students in third grade are required to read informational texts, conduct research on a topic, and write an informational piece. This project is both exciting and challenging for students. Students easily become overwhelmed by the vast amount of information found online. As new researchers, students are learning how to find valuable and accurate information about a topic of their choice. Although the information online seems limitless, the navigation and readability of information is difficult for many students.

The Whitewater Leads Grant allowed me to purchase a nonfiction book for each of my students to help them conduct their research. Immediately, students were excited and took ownership of the literacy project using the best tool out there, a book! All books purchased supported student interest and independent reading levels.
